Large Blacks typically have a live butcher weight of 200-300 pounds. However, allowing a longer grow-out time has not only shown an increase in weight but also an increase in fat marbling. We have found adequate quantity and quality of feed and forage is vital, and with it, they can average 0.7-0.9 pounds of growth/day, reaching butcher weight by 8-10 months. They are generally easy keepers that are reasonably respectful of fences. Docile and friendly. It is an excellent option for beginners and experienced pig owners.

2-3 Months Old – Purebred – WAITLIST OPEN
Start or add to your meat program with some purebred Large Black weanlings. The Large Blacks are a large, mid-growth breed compared to a commercial breed, reaching industry-standard butcher weight at around ten months old.
Growers $425-$650 ON SALE $250+
4-7 Months Old – Purebred – LIMITED AVAILABLE
Start with growers in the spring. Not only does this decrease the growout time on your farm, but you will also be able to butcher by fall. The Large Blacks are a large, mid-growth breed that typically gains an average of 0.7-0.9 pounds/day over their first ten months. Price varies by age.
Gilts & Proven Sows
– Breeding Quality
Registered, breeding quality gilts/sows, picked for conformation and temperament.
Large Blacks are known for their docile temperament. They are easy on fences and generally easy keepers. Furthermore, they have excellent foraging instincts. Gilts and sows typically farrow 8-11 piglets and can start breeding as young as eight months without difficulty. Fully grown, they are a large breed reaching 600 to 800 pounds at a mature weight. Breeding quality gilts are available at 4-8 Months old. We suggest purebred Large Black gilts be bred between 8-12 months for best fertility throughout their life. Large blacks typically have 8-12 piglets per litter. Please inquire for a complete list of currently available gilts. Come registered with CLRC.
Large Black Gilt Exposed $1500

Registered, purebred, proven Large Black sow. She has farrowed one litter and is currently exposed to a purebred, registered Large Black proven boar—an excellent mother with a great retention rate.
Boarlets & Proven Boars

Registered, breeding quality boarlets/boars, picked for conformation and temperament.
Large Blacks have a docile temperament. They are easy on fences and generally easy keepers. Boars generally become interested and productive with their ladies around 6-8 months. However, it is essential to remember that they will only weigh 150-250 pounds at this point and will need longer if breeding full-grown females.
