Return & Refund Policies

Perishable Products - Meats & Apothacary

At Hogs & Horns Homestead, we pride ourselves on raising and delivering high-quality, farm-fresh perishable products. Due to the perishable nature of our farm-raised and hand-crafted products we enforce a stringent policies to ensure safety and compliance under Alberta regulations.

However, your satisfaction and safety are our top priorities. If there is an issue with your order, please review our policy below:

1. Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Items
If your product arrives damaged, spoiled, or if you received the incorrect item, please notify us within 24 hours of delivery or pickup.
  • Required proof: You must provide clear photographs of the product, packaging, and the specific issue (e.g., broken vacuum seal, off-colour meat, incorrect cut).
  • Resolution: Valid claims will be resolved at our discretion through a product replacement, a homestead store credit, or a partial/full refund to your original payment method.
2. Temperature & Storage Integrity
Because our products are highly perishable, customers are responsible for immediate and proper storage (refrigeration below 4°C or freezing below -18°C) upon pickup or delivery. Hogs and Horns Homestead is not liable for products that spoil due to improper handling, delayed storage, or being left unattended after delivery.

3. Order Cancellations
  • Standard Perishable Orders: Cancellations must be requested at least 48 hours before your scheduled pickup or delivery date.
  • Custom Meat Packages / Bulk Shares: Deposits for custom animal shares (e.g., whole/half hogs) are non-refundable once processing or slaughter scheduling has begun.
4. Processing Refunds
Approved refunds will be processed within 5 to 7 business days. Funds will be returned via your original payment method (e.g., credit card, e-Transfer). Please note that your banking institution may require additional processing time to reflect the credit.

Livestock

We hold ourselves to high standards of animal health, welfare, and bio-security. Because the introduction of outside animals poses a significant bio-security risk to our farm, all livestock sales are final once the animal leaves our property.
Please review our deposit, cancellation, and health policies below prior to placing a commitment on an animal.
1. Deposit Policy
  • Non-Refundable Deposit: To reserve livestock, a 40% deposit is required at the time of booking.

  • Commitment of Sale: This 40% deposit is strictly non-refundable, as it secures the animal, removes it from the market, and covers ongoing feed and care costs during the holding period.

2. Exceptions to the Deposit Policy
The 40% deposit will be refunded in full only under the following circumstances:
  • Injury or Illness: The reserved animal suffers an injury or becomes ill while still in the care and custody of Hogs and Horns Homestead.

  • Mortality: In the unfortunate event of the animal’s death prior to pickup or delivery.
If an animal becomes unfit for sale due to these reasons, buyers will be given the choice of a full refund of their deposit or the option to transfer the deposit to a mutually agreed-upon replacement animal.

3. Pickup Timeline & Delay Fees
We operate a working farm and schedule our animal housing tightly. Once you are notified that your animal is ready to go, you must book your pickup appointment within two (2) weeks.
If you fail to book and execute your pickup within this 14-day window:
  • Forfeiture: Hogs and Horns Homestead reserves the right to cancel your reservation. In this case, your 40% deposit is entirely forfeited, and the animal will be placed back up for sale.

  • Housing Fees: At our sole discretion, if an extension is mutually agreed upon in writing, a daily housing, feed, and care fee will be applied to your final invoice. This fee must be paid in full before the animal is loaded.

4. Health Guarantee and Bio-security
  • Pre-Pickup Inspection: Buyers (or their designated transporters) are required to inspect the livestock before loading. If the buyer (or their designated transporter) inspects the animal in person and deems the animal unfit, the order may be cancelled by the customer prior to loading. Cancellations will be resolved at our discretion through a product replacement, a homestead credit, or a partial/full refund to your original payment method. Once the animal is loaded onto the buyer’s transport vehicle, Hogs and Horns Homestead relinquishes all liability regarding the animal’s health, soundness, or future performance.

  • No Returns: To preserve the bio-security of our homestead, we strictly do not accept any livestock returns under any circumstances once the animal has left our premises.

5. Post-Transport Support & Animal Well-Being
We deeply care about the long-term well-being of every animal born and raised on our homestead. We want your new livestock to thrive in their new home. We understand that transport stress and environment changes can sometimes cause unexpected health or settling issues.
While our legal liability ends at loading, our support does not. If you have concerns about the animal’s health, feeding, or behaviour post-transport, please reach out to us. We will gladly share our farm’s experience, offer mentorship, and help you navigate these hurdles to ensure a smooth transition for the animal. Please note that this support is informational and does not replace professional veterinary care.

Nose-To-Tail Shop - Nonperishable Products

We are deeply committed to crafting and preparing quality hand-crafted, natural, and artisanal non-perishable products, including European skull mounts, bone-art, raw fibre, processed fleeces, felted goods, and original artwork. Because these items are organic, natural, or handmade creations, we aim to provide customer satisfaction while acknowledging the unique nature of artwork with natural elements.
Please review our policy for non-perishable purchases below:
1. Natural Variations & Custom Sales
  • Artisanal & Natural Characteristics: Items such as skull mounts, fleeces, and felted products are made from natural materials or crafted by hand. Variations in size, colour, texture, and natural markings are normal characteristics of the material and are not considered product defects.
  • Custom Commissions: All sales of custom artwork, custom felted pieces, or custom skull cleaning and mounting services are final sale. Deposits or final payments for custom commissions cannot be returned, cancelled, or refunded once work has commenced.
2. Returns & Exchanges (In-Stock Items Only)
For standard, non-customized stock items (e.g., pre-made artwork, packaged fibre, or pre-made felted goods), we offer a 14-day return window subject to the following strict conditions:
  • Timeframe: You must contact us within 14 days of the delivery or pickup date to request a return authorization. Unsolicited returns will not be accepted.
  • Condition: Items must be returned in their original, unused, and unaltered condition. Raw fibre and processed fleeces must remain in their unopened, original packaging and must be entirely free of smoke, pet hair, or outside contamination due to bio-cleanliness standards.
  • Return Shipping: The buyer is solely responsible for all return shipping costs and any associated customs/duty fees. We highly recommend using a trackable, insured shipping service; Hogs and Horns Homestead is not responsible for return shipments lost or damaged in transit.
3. Transit Damage Claims
If your item arrives damaged during transit (e.g., fragile artwork or skull mounts damaged by the courier), please notify us within 48 hours of delivery.
  • Required Proof: You must email us clear photographs of the damaged product, the interior packaging materials, and the exterior shipping box showing the shipping label.
  • Resolution: Valid transit damage claims will be resolved at our sole discretion via an identical replacement (subject to availability), a homestead credit, or a refund to your original payment method.
4. Refund Processing
Once your return is received and inspected to verify its original condition, we will notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. Approved refunds will be issued back to your original payment method within 5 to 7 business days. Please note that banking institutions may require additional processing time to post the credit to your account.
